To ensure the success of the Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Inc., hardworking volunteers are needed. The following Volunteer Opportunities are available:
10th Annual Downtown Dash for Diabetes
Job Title: Downtown Dash for Diabetes Corporate Sponsor “Salesman”

 Corporate Sponsor “Salesman”

Do you like meeting people from different companies in various industries? Not afraid to pick up the phone and connect with new people?  Boy have we a volunteer opportunity for you!  The Diabetes Association of Atlanta is planning our upcoming 10th Annual Downtown Dash for Diabetes Run/Walk in March 2006.  We need corporate sponsors to help underwrite this event.  We need you to help develop our list of corporate sponsors, answer questions they may have about the event or the different sponsorship levels and obtain sponsorship contributions.  This event is fun, FUN, fun!  We have a great group of volunteers working on various aspects of the event.  Join a fun group of people helping raise money for a great cause. 

Skills: Experience in fundraising or sales preferred.  Must be comfortable making cold calls.  This position requires an 8 to 10 month commitment at 4 hours a week.  

Job Title: Downtown Dash for Diabetes Data Entry Whiz 

Data Entry Whiz

Seeking individuals to input and change information in our database on clients (name, address, phone numbers, etc.) and enter race registrants into Dash database. 

Skills: Proficiency in MS Access is preferred.  Must have basic computer skills and be a good typist.  This position has short and long term assignments available and requires 4 to 8 hours a week. 

Job Title: Public Relations Coordinator 

Public Relations Coordinator

Seeking individual to assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications plan and media relations strategy to generate visibility for the Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Inc.  Specific responsibilities include:

-        Develop a communications plan

-        Prepare a timeline for press releases; identify the best outlets and maintain a list of local media contacts.

-        Develop a press kit.

-        Create and distribute press releases for events, programs, and fundraising activities

-        Help establish and develop relationships with local media

-        Assist with publicizing of fundraising events and campaigns

Skills: Background in Public Relations or Communications.  Must possess a working knowledge of MS Office.  This opportunity requires a minimum of four hours a week

Volunteer Coordinator
Looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to organize volunteer program and manage volunteers.  Task include:

-        Sending Volunteer Applications to prospective volunteers

-        Following up prospective volunteers after they have attended an agency tour

-        Match volunteers to appropriate volunteer positions within the organization

-        This is a fun opportunity where you get to meet diverse people and work with a great staff!

-        Attending volunteer fairs or distributing flyers to local businesses to market volunteer program

-        Posts opportunities on the web

Skills: Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office); access to web; strong communication skills; team-oriented; and organized individual.  This is a long term commitment assignment that will require about 10 hours per week

Event Planner

Seeking individual to help coordinate programs and activities for Diabetes Awareness Month in November.  Volunteers can:

-        Help plan logistics of planned activities

-        Create marketing collateral

-        Promote to healthcare professionals and organizations

-        Recruit, obtain and follow up with sponsors, exhibitors and speakers

 Skills: Event or program planning experience is preferred.  Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office.  This is a short-term commitment of 6-8 months about 2 to 4 hours per week. 

Grant proposal/Writer
The Diabetes Association of Atlanta is looking for experienced proposal writers.  We’re searching for a power writer to create short proposals for funding.  We are a creative, dynamic and educational nonprofit and need a unique set of skills that can deliver our message, and of course bring in additional funds.  This is a “virtual” opportunity that can be done from home; however we need local people we can meet with from time to time. 

Skills: Must have good writing skills.  Must show at least three previous written proposals that have received funding.  There is a time commitment of approximately 8 hours per proposal.

Office Support
Seeking individuals to provide basic office support (type, make copies, file, assemble meeting packets, bulk mailings etc.) to small staff.

Skills: Flexible people person, who is looking to make a difference in a office with hard working, dedicated staff.  Short and long term assignments available with a time commitment of 4 to 8 hours a week.

Researcher
Searching for an individual with a knack for finding information.  You will be searching for various companies and vendors that the Diabetes Association of Atlanta could potentially partner with on existing or future programs.  This individual will also surf the web and find other avenues to find information such as targeted foundations, funders, donors, etc.  Seeking local volunteers who are able to meet in the office on occasion.

Skills: Researching and patience.  Must have basic computer skills and possess knowledge of the use of commonly used web search engines. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint preferred.  Various short term assignments available throughout the year.  Approximately 8 hours per project.
